Waterhole Canyon
There are big canyons, think Grand Canyon, and small canyons, think slot canyons. Slot Canyons provide an almost endless variety of shapes and colors that are great fun to photograph. This image was taken in Waterhole Canyon on the Navajo Reservation. I had a delightful young Navajo man as a guide, who taught me some good tricks for acquiring images.

I had traveled throughout the Southwest as a child with my parents, but grew up in the East and later lived in California. When I moved to Colorado in 1988, I began to explore in more detail. Mountain biking in Moab, trips to find rock art through the Southwest, and ultimately buying a second home in the Tucson area has meant lots of time in the desert. I tend to think of our Southwest in terms of Red Rock Country, Canyon Country, and Sonoran Desert Country. Each has its charms.
